Dear All
As per the programme, we are arranging a camping night out. We will be riding out to Marchington on the Saturday carrying camping gear and back on the Sunday.
Marchington is between Tutbury and Uttoxeter and those of you who have been on the 100k "to the races" will have passed through it. At the moment the plan is to leave Alfreton at 10am and head to the Salt Box Cafe at Hatton for lunch before it closes at 2pm. For those who don't like hills we plan to take the low road from there which is flatter than the 100k route - obviously you can choose to go the hillier route .This will be about 30 miles. People are welcome to find their own route particularly if you want to go at a faster pace or go via a longer route and meet us either at the Salt Box or at the campsite.
I have attached details (hopefully) of the campsite. There is a pub in Marchington village which serves food and one that is more a drinking pub. In addition there is an indian restaurant about a mile in the other direction from the campsite who will deliver takeaways to the campsite. At the moment our thought is that we personally will pick up beer supplies in Hatton / Hilton on the way in and call in the pub at Marchington for a pint on the way in and then have a takeaway (or go to the restaurant if it is cold or raining)
Although there are prices in the brochure, they normally expect you to stay for 2 nights They have said that we can stay for one night only and i have asked them to confirm a price for one person in a single tent. As soon as I have these details we will put them on the forum page. The site normally has about twelve pitches but i would guess that if we are all small tents and no cars we may be able to get more on (but don't quote me on that). there are five caravan hardstandings with electricity.
Please note that i didn't see any benches on the site (but will check) so you will be sitting on the floor unless you bring something.
There is an electric kettle, toaster and small microwave if anyone would prefere to take a microwave meal or do their porridge for breakfast. There is also a fridge for milk and of course beer although it will be shared by the whole(small) site. Ladies, I have checked and there were 2 bathrooms with toilet, shower and sink for the ladies which looked clean when i "inspected".
We'll take a frying pan and pick up some bacon along the way so if you want a bacon buttie bring your slice of bread and your sachet of sauce!!!!!
So... to ensure we can book this we need to know soon how many people we have and we need a deposit. If you want us to book for you I would suggest a deposit of £5 per person as we are being asked for 50% deposit which is not always refundable. Ideally we would like to book soon so that we can ensure we have space on the site. Anyone wanting to book later will have to contact the site direct themselves. Please could you let me know by Mid February if you intend to come so i can let the campsite know, I will then ask for deposits for the end of February and book the pitches. If anyone wants a camping pod, they will have to book direct with the site themselves. There are two pods which are £35 a night for two people plus £5 each for up to two additional people. However if you wanted to book them now, they would want you to book and pay for two nights but nearer the time would consider letting you have it for one night.
Please email us at dasmi@hotmail.co.uk if you want to come so we have an idea of numbers of tents and people
If you have any questions, please post them on the forum if you can please because if you want to know something so will someone else. If we get any more information we will put it on the forum. The forum can be accessed through the Alfreton CTC website.
If anyone has a spare tent they are happy to lend out or know where they are being sold cheap - I know there are some people haven't got one so you could share the info on the forum
